Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OAPI) believes that our employees are the most important asset of our company - and the most critical component for our company's success. Our extensive compensation and benefits package reflects these beliefs. Medical, dental, and vision, as well as other optional insurance plans, are all offered at competitive rates. The company's 401(k) Savings Plan is highly competitive relative to the industry and our leave policy is progressive and flexible.

All employees participate in merit increase and incentive award programs. Our benefits package also includes Life Insurance, Accidental Death, Employee Assistance, Disability, and Educational Reimbursement. Our dedicated Human Resources staff is continually investigating new and improved rewards and benefits plans.

Listed below is a summary of the compensation and benefits package:

Benefits Plans

Otsuka offers benefits for medical, dental, vision care, and disability. We provide employees a choice of two medical benefit plans, along with a choice of networks:

Medical Plans

  • EPO: Under the Exclusive Provider Option (EPO), you choose your physicians and medical facilities from a list of preferred providers. Under this plan you typically have a co-pay, but no deductible. There is an out-of-network high deductible safety net.
  • PPO: The Preferred Provider Option (PPO) allows you to use doctors inside and outside of the network preferred provider list. There is a deductible, but the deductible may be waived for many services.
Dental Plan

The plan covers preventative care and other general dental expenses.

Vision Plan

The plan includes provisions for eye examinations, glasses, and contact lenses.

Life Insurance

Upon hire date, employees are automatically enrolled in basic life insurance for two times annual salary and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for five times annual salary. Additionally, new employees may enroll in optional life insurance for self, spouse, and children, with premiums paid by employees via payroll deduction.

Long- and Short-Term Disability

OAPI provides Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) benefits. The STD Plan provides up to 180 calendar days for medical leaves of absence with pay to eligible employees who are temporarily unable to work due to a serious health condition or disability. The LTD Plan assists in protecting full-time eligible employees from loss of income in the event they become totally disabled.

Compensation Programs

Annual Merit Increase Program

All eligible employees have the opportunity to increase their base pay through annual merit increases based on individual performance.

Short-Term Incentive Program

Annual incentive payments are possible through this plan which evaluates both company and individual performance against pre-approved goals and objectives.

Long-Term Incentive Program

Significant business and financial achievements on the part of the company and the evaluation of individual employees against specific competencies or behaviors are the basis for possible awards in this discretionary plan with payouts deferred for three years.

401(k) Savings Plan

The 401(k) Savings Plan offers employees a chance to save for retirement and to reduce present taxes. OAPI offers a very competitive 401(k) Savings Plan. It offers several different funds and is managed by Fidelity Investments. The company will match 100% of your first 6% of contributions to the Plan. Matching contributions vest over a period of five years of service.

Other Benefits

Flexible Spending Accounts

Spending accounts are pre-tax methods of setting aside funds for use in paying for dependent care or for anticipated health care expenses not covered in the healthcare plans.
  • Dependent Care Spending Accounts: You can reimburse yourself with pre-tax dollars up to $5,000 ($2,500 if married and filing separately) for such services as day care centers, nursery schools, or day care for adult dependents.
  • Health Care Spending Accounts: You may reimburse yourself with pre-tax dollars up to $5,000 for eligible expenses as deductibles, co-payments/co-insurance, and eyeglasses.
Paid Time Off (PTO)

PTO consists of sick time, vacation time, or other personal time off from the company, for which you are paid your normal salary. Otsuka's policy is to give you a total annual allotment of days off per year, based on your month of hire (in your first year of employment) or years of service with the company.
