Otsuka Group to Enter a Long‑term Agreement to Procure Renewable Electricity from Newly Constructed Solar Power Generation Facilities through JERA Cross — Expanding the Use of “Self‑generated Renewable Energy” to Promote Carbon Neutrality Initiatives—
February 25, 2026
Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and Representative Director, CEO: Makoto Inoue) signed a long-term agreement with JERA Cross Co., Inc. (JERA Cross) in February to procure renewable electricity from solar energy.
The Otsuka group has set a target of achieving 20% self‑generated renewable energy by 2028 in order to enhance the stability of its energy supply, to strengthen the resilience of the business, and to help increase the amount of renewable energy in society overall. Self‑generated renewable energy refers to renewable energy generated by the group's facilities or newly generated in collaboration with power producers in the pursuit of additionality1. This initiative with JERA Cross is expected to further increase the proportion of self‑generated renewable energy within the Otsuka group.
Under this agreement, electricity generated from newly installed solar power generation facilities will be aggregated by JERA Cross as an aggregator2 and supplied for use at Otsuka group business sites3 in the Kanto region. Electricity supply is scheduled to begin in April 2027. The introduction of renewable electricity from solar energy under this initiative is equivalent4 to an annual reduction of approximately 710 tons of CO₂ emissions5.
By collaborating with JERA Cross, which has extensive expertise in power aggregation, the Otsuka group will be able to secure a stable and long‑term supply of self‑generated renewable energy in the Kanto region—its second‑largest area of electricity consumption in Japan after Tokushima, where many of its business sites are concentrated. Furthermore, by procuring electricity from newly constructed solar power generation facilities through JERA Cross, the group will help expand the amount of renewable energy in society overall. The Otsuka group will continue to further expand the use of self‑generated renewable energy.
The Otsuka group will continue to promote group-wide efforts to reduce its environmental impact through the use of new technologies and solutions with the aim of contributing to achieve a decarbonized society and, ultimately, a sustainable society.
1. Additionality: Increasing the supply of renewable energy in society overall by adding newly constructed renewable power generation facilities.
2. Aggregator: A business that centrally manages multiple distributed energy resources such as power generation and storage facilities.
3. Excluding office buildings.
4. CO₂ reduction amount compared to using standard electricity.
5. Basis for estimating “a reduction of approximately 710 t‑CO₂/year”: Assumed annual power generation of 1,680,000 kWh × 2024 national average CO₂ emission factor of 0.000423 t‑CO₂ (amount that can be offset with non‑fossil certificates).
